Apple has always been a producer of software and hardware that has great appeal to those that consider themselves unconventional. That should be enough of a hint to the vast popularity of the ringtones for iPhone right now and the personalization of these mobile phones. There is a price attached to it, but people have many choices when it comes to the personalization of their iPhone.

The iTunes users can presently customize their sound tracks and they can even create their own iPhone ringtones. Now the iPhone comes equipped with a ringtone maker, which lets the user pick one of the hundreds of thousands of songs that the iTunes Store has.

On this site you can pay 99 cents for any song that has a bell next to it. That bell means that it can be converted to a ringtone. First, you pay for the song and you buy it. Then, the new owner can play any part of that song and add special effects to it, while keeping only 30 seconds of it to form the ringtone.

You pay another 99 cents for the ringtone, so it costs you $1.98 to create an iPhone ringtone through iTunes. If you go buy your ringtone from somewhere else, it will cost you $2.49, so this is a bit cheaper. After you buy your new ringtone, you sync the iPhone to the system and you download it. Easy!

Experts from the industry are talking and arguing on how effective the cost is, but users don’t seem to be too impressed. The problem is that users don’t want to pay twice for a song.

Because if you pay for the song to own it, you have to pay again to make it a ringtone. While $1.98 is a good price, the fact that you already own the song and you’re not allowed to use it as a ringtone unless you buy it again is a problem for most people.

Some people are actually talking about using the iPod manually, by choosing a song and playing it when the iPhone vibrates or rings. This is because this way it’s legal and iPhone users don’t have to pay an extra dollar for a song to make it a ringtone.

Of course, as you would expect, there are plenty of tips online to work around this problem. Some say that it would be enough to buy the iToner for $15 and use it to convert songs into ringtones, so you don’t have to pay a dollar for each song.

There are even forums that deal with these activities. Some suggest that it’s enough to simply change the extension of an iTunes song to that of a ringtone. So, take the AAC music files and manually change their extension to M4R (that ringtones have). That’s it, you can sync the iPhone and take the ringtones.

RingtoneFeeder is a new and innovative approach to iPhone ringtones offering a subscription model which automatically installs a new original ringtone on the iPhone via iTunes every week. The earlier a subscription to the service is made the bigger collection the subscriber will have. When a ringtone has been released it will not appear in the weekly updates ever again.

Once the ringtone has been synced via iTunes it is instantly available on the iPhone. The subscriber can keep all ringtones received permanently during the active subscription period even if the service is cancelled later on.

Using Smart Playlists in iTunes the user can manage the number of simultaneous ringtones to be synced to the iPhone automatically, however, the basic concept is simply to get a fresh new ringtone every week - just like getting an episode of a favorite podcast or TV show.

“We are really exited about this new concept and we are confident that the weekly iPhone ringtone we are producing will make a positive difference for the millions of iPhone users out there. Unlike traditional ringtones which are often made from extracts of songs or existing sounds, we are producing short songs that are made to be ringtones, they are unique, sometimes even topical and optimized specifically for the iPhones.” said Geoff Smith, Partner and Producer at RingtoneFeeder.com “We hope to be able to make the sound of your ringtones more pleasant, maybe even put a smile on someone’s face when the iPhone starts ringing.”

Beside writing the lyrics and producing the original tones, RingtoneFeeder has spent considerable time identifying not only specific instruments but also testing each and every ringtone production to make sure that the tones are within a well defined sound spectrum ensuring the ringtones sounds great when the iPhone is ringing.

There is also a free demo feed available so the service can be tried out with no obligations. The free feed contains a few sample ringtones as well as an introduction video and a PDF guide to managing ringtones via iTunes.

RingtoneFeeder is currently offering two different subscription options. The monthly subscription cost is $1.98 or you can opt for a full year at $19.98 which both includes instant access to the 5 most recently produced ringtones along with at least one new ringtone usually released every Tuesday and a video tutorial about using RingtoneFeeder services, managing ringtones via Start Playlists in iTunes and syncing with the iPhone.

Geoff Smith has been producing and playing music most of his life and is mostly known online from his jingles heard on Adam Curry’s Daily Source Code Podcast, GeekBrief.tv, Tips from The Top Floor, ScreenCasts Online and recently the successful iYule project. Geoff began composing jingles and theme songs for podcasters back in 2005 and has literally written hundreds.

Geoff has been Entertainment Director of the Big Bang Piano Bars for several years and he is performing live several nights every week at The Big Bang Bar in Nashville TN, and has also worked as an engineer and producer at Studio East in Charlotte, NC.

itunes
It is possible to associate album artwork with a song with the help of iTunes. This new feature will be enjoyable to iPod users. iTunes support multiple album artworks for a song. The iTune 4.7 version will help you to transfer album artwork to your iPod photo and thus, enables you to see the album while you play the song.

The process of associating album artwork with songs is not at all difficult. Just search in Google for CD covers and drag the desired one to the song album placeholder in iTunes. However, it is easy only if you want album artworks for few songs only. If you have thousands of songs in your iTunes library then it is not possible to associate album works to all that songs. However, some free sites are available to make it possible to add album artworks to the songs. The most important among them are clutter and art4iTunes.com.

Clutter: Clutter will help you to associate albums to number of songs. You can put some CD after installing Clutter. It will search in Amazon.com to see whether the album artwork for that song is available. If multiple albums are available for the song then pair of arrows will be displayed and you can select any album according to your wish. Then you can copy the album artworks to iTunes by using File - copy cover to iTunes.

Suppose, the clutter is not able to find any album artwork for the song, then you can search in Amazon.com by going to File- Find cover in Amazon. Here you will get a list of matching albums for your song that you can select according to your interest. Clutter also has a fantastic feature of dragging and dropping images to your desktop. However, clutter will not work well in compilation where you may have number of artists.

Art4iTunes.com: This is another free site that will help you to get album artwork for your songs in iTunes. First select Find- Export song list to get the list of songs. Then go to the site where you just select the song list. Then art4iTunes will search for album artworks in various sites like Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk. Once you get the matching album artworks you can drag and drop the desired images to your iTunes.

Album artwork Locator: The album artwork locator in iTunes will help you to find and copy albums into iTunes. Sometimes your iTunes music library will have music but a few albums may be missing. Album artwork locator helps you to find the artworks and then copy them directly to your iTunes. Without albums your songs will not be that much exciting. Therefore, this feature is gaining a high reputation among music lovers. You can give the file details in the locator by artists or title or album in the correct section not all in one line it will be easy to find the correct albums. However, you need some advanced operating systems like Windows 2003, windows xp or some other operating system to download this product.

There are many ways to remove DRM protection from iTunes music. On Windows OS, you can remove the DRM from iTunes music using the burn-and-rip method or you can turn to programs like TuneClone and DoubleTwist. On Mac OS X, iMovie is the perfect solution to removing DRM from iTunes music. Besides, freewares like FairGame is also a pretty good choice. So this article is dedicated to introducing several methods of removing the nasty DRM from iTunes music on Windows and Mac OS X. It is divided into the following four parts:

Part 1. Remove DRM from iTunes music on Windows with burn-and-rip method

A. Insert a CD-R or CD-RW disc into your CD-ROM drive. You’d better use CD-RW disc as it can be used for more than once.

B. Burn your playlist to make an audio CD. You cannot select the MP3 CD option since it requires the protected music files be converted to unprotected MP3 files.

C. After the audio CD is successfully burned, insert the disc into your CD-ROM drive again. Then you can use iTunes to import the music tracks on the burned disc to MP3 files.

Part 2. Remove DRM from iTunes music on Windows with TuneClone

A. Download TuneClone from http://www.tuneclone.com and install it.

It is fully compatible with Windows XP and Vista. A virtual CD Burner will be installed. This virtual CD-RW will be used to convert music files.

B. Set the default CD Burner to TuneClon CD-RW at iTunes.

Click menu Edit, select menu item Preferences…, and then select Advanced Tab. In order to keep the artist and title information of the music, the Include CD Text option should be checked.

C. Create a playlist, and then add the files you want to convert into the playlist.

D. Click Burn Disc button at the bottom right of the main screen of iTunes.

While the burning gets started, TuneClone will automatically convert the music file to MP3, WMA or WAV. You can open the manager screen to show all the converted music files.

The most important step is to choose the cd burner. Then the software can convert the music files automatically. It is exceedingly easy when you want to batch convert lots of files.

Part 3. Remove DRM from iTunes music on Mac OS X with iMovie

In the iMovie window, select the ‘Media’ tab located between ‘Themes’ and ‘Editing’. You will notice that the top right portion of the interface now offers a media browser. Select the ‘Audio’ tab and locate the playlist which contains purchased music, or search by artist/title.

Select the DRM-laden song and drag the file from the media browser into the iMovie timeline where it says “Drag audio here to build your project.”

In order to export the song, iMovie requires that a visual image be associated with the audio track - iMovie thinks that it is going to be exporting a movie. Simply drag a blank image (or any other image) to the track above the previously imported audio file. Once iMovie has processed the image, select the ‘Share…’ sub menu item from found inside ‘Share’ in iMovie’s menu bar.

Ensure that ‘Expert Settings’ is selected in the “Compress movie for:” drop-down menu. Selecting ‘Expert Settings’ mode will provide the options to export the file as an audio file. Select the ‘Share’ button.

In the Save as… dialogue, select “Sound to AIFF” in the Export drop-down menu, Choose an appropriate directory for iMovie to export to, title the file, and select ‘Save’. Depending on your machine configuration, iMovie will compress and export the movie project as an audio file in 15-40 seconds.

Locate the exported AIFF audio file and drag to your iTunes Library. Right-click on the file and select “Convert Selection to AAC”. Once completed, ‘Get Info’ on the new file, edit meta data, add album art, and trash the originally purchased and AIFF audio files from your iTunes library.

Part 4. Remove DRM from iTunes music on Mac OS X with FairGame

FairGame is freeware to remove DRM protection from iTunes music on Mac OS X. It will convert the DRMed songs you bought on the iTunes Store to an unprotected format (using iTunes default encoder) and keep all the original metadata, lyrics and artwork. FairGame doesn’t do lossless DRM stripping. It re-encodes protected AAC files purchased in iTMS into unprotected AAC file using Apple’s iMovie software.

What you MUST DO (only once) to get FairGame to work:

Enable “Access for assistive devices” in the “Universal Access” system preference

Select “Place clip in Movie Timeline” in the “Import” preference of iMovie HD

Then you can simply:

Select some songs in iTunes

Click on the “Process songs” button

Don’t touch anything and wait until it’s done…(FairGame is scripting iMovie’s interface to process the songs, don’t interfere)

iTunes is a proprietary digital media player application, launched by Apple Computer , for playing and organizing digital music and video files. Of course, iTunes is in

a different league from Mail. You could almost argue that it is Apple’s single most important piece of software after OS X, its flagship digital product.

iTunes is the easiest way to organize, share and listen to music on your computer. Find new favorites. Manage your growing library. Enjoy the best friend an iPod

ever had.

Importing your existing music is merely a matter of inserting a CD, while the iTunes Music Store offers something for everyone. Buy songs and albums by your

favorite musicians. Download exclusive tracks — from artists such as Eminem and Franz Ferdinand — you won’t find anywhere else. Or jumpstart your digital music

collection with iTunes Essentials organized by mood, artist or theme.

iTunes is the software hub that makes the iPod such a successful device. And since it was made available for Windows

as well as Mac OS X, iTunes has become the first piece of Apple software many people ever see. As such, it acts as a representative, a means for Apple to show off

its wares to potential new customers.

What’s more, iTunes does so many things. From its beginnings as a humble audio player, iTunes has now become a central point for downloading and enjoying all

manner of multimedia content. Podcasts, music videos, online radio, TV shows, and audio books have all got a place in the iTunes Sources bar.

iTunes is also a store. For many people, the iTunes Music Store is the first thing they try out when using iTunes for the first time

Automated Option: If you’re someone who likes to sleep in the same room as your Mac, then it makes sense to use it as a sophisticated alarm clock. Better yet, fix it

so that iTunes wakes you up with your favorite songs each morning. AlarmThingy should do the trick.

In OS X, iTunes comes with a decent stack of Automator actions (including several designed for use with iPods) you might like to play around with.

Explore Your Music: One of my favorite add-ons for iTunes is Clutter, a free, open source app that lets you look at your music collection the old-fashioned way: by

seeing the sleeves. Clutter gives you the chance to put music CDs anywhere you like on your Desktop. You can drag them into whatever patterns or piles you like.

To play an album, double-click the sleeve. It’s nice.

Sharing: You probably know that libraries and play lists within iTunes can be shared over a network. Anyone else on the network can listen to the music directly from

your Mac. With hardware extras like Airport Express, you can use AirTunes to distribute shared music to audio-video devices too. It’s all very simple to set up.

It is always your one-stop music shop , the iTunes Music Store now features music videos and TV shows to buy and own

forever. So while you browse more than 3 million songs, 35,000 podcasts and more than 16,000 audiobooks, you can also preview and download that classic ’80s

video or the latest episode of “The Office.”

Before we start, a warning, obvious teacher speak coming up: we all know the legalities of this. Keep the CD for yourself and therefore you are not going against copyright.

Step 1.

Create a new playlist

This will allow us to group together all the tracks that we want on our CD, and also allows us to arrange them in an order. Go to file > New Playlist. When it appears in the source list on the left hand side, click on it and give it a name (it will also be the CD name).

Step 2.

Add some tracks

The first tracks are the ones that are already in our iTunes library (ripped from CD or downloaded before hand). You can add tunes by using iTunes search box, type in the artists name and track name into the box. When the track appears in the main window drag and drop it into the new playlist.

Step 3.

Source tracks from CD

That is getting tracks from your own collection of CDs and they are not in your iTunes library. Put your CD into your CD-ROM drive and load up the Internet, then wait for it to appear in iTunes. The track names will appear in the library. If they dont? Make sure you are on the Internet, goto Advanced menu and select Get CD Track Names.

Step 4.

Rip your CD tracks

Goto Edit/Preferences and click on the Importing tab. From the Import Using menu choose AIFF encoder and leave Setting at Automatic. Leave the three boxes unclicked, unless you want to hear the tracks while importing. Drag the now ripped tracks to your playlist.

Step 5.

Add tracks from your Hard Drive

If you have any tunes hiding around on your drive, you need to add them to the library. iTunes can play MP3 or AIFF files, but it converts (non protected) WMA files to MP3 after importing them. Locate your songs, and then drag them onto the Library icon in iTunes source window. From there you can add them to your playlist.

Step 6.

Place tracks in order

This is a case of dragin files to the place where you want them and then drop. You could have similar themes, styles or even beats coupled together. Slow tunes at the start, dancy track at the end?

Step 7.

Set burning preferences

Select Edit menu > Preferences > Advanced > Burning. Set the speed of your CD burner to the max and click the Audio CD button. Now select the gap you would like between tracks. If you want iTunes to force all the tracks to play at the same level, tick Sound Check.

Step 8.

Burning

Double check everything, track order etc. The total time is displayed at the bottom of the iTunes window (dont exceed 72 mins as it wont fit onto a normal CD). Insert a blank CD in your drive and then click on Burn Disk.

Step 9.

CD case insert

This is an insert for your CD case, complete with track listing. Go to File > Print. Select Jewel Case insert and pick a theme. If you have album art on iTunes you can use it to create a cover. Standard is White Mosaic. Click page set-up and check everything is ok, especially the paper for printer use. Then Print.
