Virtually everyone has at some point seen the ads for the compact iPod nanos or knows a friend or a family member who has one of these electronic devices. The iPod Nanos were accepted very well by electronic consumers, not because they were devices that were anticipated to be rejected, but a music device that was a surprise for people who were looking into these types of players.

The iPod Nanos were meant to replace the IPod Mini as the mid-level iPod product, with additional space and features compared to the IPod Shuffle and less than the traditional iPod. The introduction of the iPod Nanos surprised the press, due to the fact that even though they were anticipating an iPod that utilized flash memory for storage purposes, no one thought that Apple would so thoroughly have the iPod Nanos replace the IPod Minis.

Even though the iPod minis were still doing well, there was no apparent reason to discontinue a successful product even with the introduction of a newer one. Regardless, the aggressive move ended up being the right one, due to the fact that people have accepted it and has even been cited for durability and quality, in spite of initial issues of the iPod Nano with scratching of the screens.

Modifications of the IPod Nanos

In the beginning, it was challenging to locate some accessories for iPod Nanos due to the fact that in order to compensate for the reduced size of the items, Apple had to get rid of the remote connector located towards the top part of models such as the IPod Minis, which the majority of accessories during that time period used.

With today’s accessories, items such as remotes and FM transmitters are being manufactured that hook up with the devices through a docking port. The iPod Nanos inner functionality is different from its predecessors, as well. The most significant change inside of it was the move from a small hard drive to using flash memory for the storage of songs.

The iPod Nano was shrunk down by its designers to be about the size of a slightly more slender and a little bit longer than a credit card. This can be achieved now because flash memory is roughly about the thickness and size of a postage stamp.

Regardless of the reduced size in comparison to the IPod Mini, Apple also was able to provide a color screen that gives higher resolution because of the switch to the iPod Nano. It is because of these basic changes in overall design that made iPod Nanos more capable to allow Apple to remove its predecessor, the iPod mini, from the market.

iPod Nano: Small but powerful

Being small does not make a thing less. On the contrary, in this day and age of advance discoveries and technologies, the smaller it is, the better. Everything from cell phones, to cameras, to multimedia players, they are all being scaled down in size. This makes them very portable and easy to carry around.

This is the reason why the iPod nano and its predecessor, the iPod mini, have had quite a following. Their performance and quality has shown that it does not matter if they are small, they can still provide the same performance and quality as their bigger brothers.

How Slim is the iPod Nano?

The iPod nano only measures for about 3.5″ x 1.6″ x 0.27 and weighs 1.5 ounces, it almost seems too little. But with its capabilities, its size only makes the iPod nano more endearing. It can be able to be stored in a coin pouch of a pair of pants, with area to spare. This was made possible by Apple’s move to use a flash-based memory instead of a hard disk.

You might think that with its size it would be feeble, fragile and weak. Surprisingly, its not. It has a sturdy frame that is very durable and fits perfectly in the palm of an adult hand. Its design does not only show elegance but also proper dimensions for a good grip. Available in black or white, the iPod nano is a sight for sore eyes. They look elegant and sophisticated yet so simple. It is one of the coolest looking gadgets in the market today.

Its options in memory are a 2 GB and a 4 GB flash-based memory, great for two thousand to four thousand songs. This can tide you over for quite some time already. Its colored screen can also show some photos and do a slide show while you’re listening to your music. It’s 1.5 inch screen maybe small, but they provide highly defined images.

Speaking of music, the iPod nano provides a clear, crisp sound, with each acoustic greatly defined. It doesn’t matter if you use different types of earphones and headsets, the quality is unmistakable. Using it with high quality speakers only amplifies the performance it provides.

You can synchronize your iPod nano with your computer using the software iTunes. From there you can download your music and your photos. Apple has made it easy for everyone to use this program.

This is a definite plus, you can have all the songs you want in the palm of your hand. You eliminate the need to lug around a bunch of CD’s and just listen to two or three songs from each of them and have to change CD’s again. The power and control is in your hands. Just choose which songs you want to put in your iPod nano then categorize them the way you want.

The iPod nano also is considerably cheaper than the bigger iPods. So if you don’t really need 30, 40 or 60 GB memory, the iPod nano would be best for you. There’s no sense dishing out an extra hundred dollars for space that you won’t even need.

Many techies and iPod enthusiasts see a brighter future for the iPod nano. They would soon support bigger memories and have longer battery life. But until then, the iPod nano is just perfect the way it is now.

“Why do we need an iPod FM transmitter?” is a question that is asked very often by tech-savvy music freaks. Well, there is probably no one-word or one-sentence answer to this question. It rather needs a somehow elaborate explanation. In fact, the best thing about an iPod is that it is portable; you can take it with you without feeling disturbed. So, it provides you with music on the go minus the hassles of carrying a large device.

An iPod is hardly larger than a deck of cards, yet it can store thousands of songs or audio books and lets you take them wherever you go. By virtue of its strong rechargeable battery, it continues to play on hours after hours. But the easily portable quality of the iPod can lead you to a problem ? you can get so addicted to it that you would want it to be with you every where you go. Then how can you take your tunes along when you drive your car?

If you are fortunate to have a BMW, you can surely “iPod your BMW” as it is your special privilege because of the tie-ups between BMW and Apple. But what about those who are not fortunate enough to own the latest model BMW? Well, they do not need to give way to despair. They can use an iPod FM Transmitter and take delight from non-stop music. The market offers a good variety of transmitters to choose from.

The iPod FM Transmitter is a small, chic device specially designed to be used with certain models of Apple iPod. The compatible models include the 1st and 2nd generation iPod nano, 5G iPod with video, iPod mini, iPod Photo and 4G iPod. This device is very simple to use. You have to plug the FM Transmitter into the dock connector of your iPod. Then it will wirelessly connect to your car or home stereo, ready to play your favourite tunes.

The most popular Apple product right now is the iPod Nano. The iPod Nano is much smaller than the rest of the iPod family, save for the iPod shuffle. The screen on the iPod Nano is tiny, but it is color and has a surprisingly high resolution. Because the screen is so clear, it is said to be able to have more characters in one line than the iPod Mini. The screen is no bigger than a postage stamp, but is still able to portray the album art of the current song that is playing. iPod Nano comes with a capacity of 4GB(1,000 songs) and 8GB(2,000 songs). With an anodized aluminum top and polished stainless steel back. Six eye-catching colors. A larger, brighter display with the most pixels per inch of any Apple display, ever. iPod nano stirs up visual effects from the outside in. And it will wow you for hours. Play up to 5 hours of video or up to 24 hours of audio on a single charge. All that staying power and a wafer-thin, 6.5-mm profile makes iPod nano one small big attraction.

With Cover Flow on iPod nano, you can flip through your music to find the album you want to hear. Use the Click Wheel to adjust volume, navigate songs, browse in Cover Flow, or explore the Music menu by playlist, artist, album, song, genre, composer, and more. Want to mix things up? Click Shuffle Songs. iPod nano makes your music look as good as it sounds, thanks to its bright color display.

Buy or rent movies from the iTunes Store to your iPod nano to watch anywhere, anytime. Up to 5 hours of video playback means you can watch two movies back to back. And for your viewing pleasure, the 320-by-240-pixel display with a whopping 204 pixels per inch and is 65 percent brighter than before. There is always something good on iPod nano. Browse thousands of episodes of your favorite TV shows on the iTunes Store, buy them for just $1.99 each, then sync them to your iPod nano. Watch last nights episodes this morning, or buy a whole TV series and play a pocket-size marathon. The iTunes Store features thousands of free video and audio podcasts, including indie favorites and offerings from such big names as ABC News, Comedy Central, ESPN, PBS, NPR, and many more. Browse and subscribe to podcasts, then sync them to your iPod nano. You can even play video podcasts on TV using an optional Apple component or composite AV cable.

The digital shelves of the iTunes Store are stocked with thousands of audiobooks including exclusives like the entire Harry Potter series so you can catch up on your reading wherever iPod nano takes you. iPod nano even recognizes where you left off reading and bookmarks your place.

Put hours of fun at your fingertips. iPod nano comes with three games Vortex, iQuiz and Klondike and you can download more from the iTunes Store for $4.99 each. All iPod games are designed specifically for the iPod interface. And all of them look great on the 2-inch color display.

iPod nano holds up to 7,000 photos you can sync from your Mac or PC via iTunes. Use the Click Wheel to scroll through photo thumbnails. To see a photo full screen, click the center button. You can even view your photo slideshows complete with music and transitions on a TV using an optional Apple component or composite AV cable.

Calendars, contacts, and a screen lock appear in the Extras menu, along with a few more handy items. Take the world clock, for example. Spin the Click Wheel to choose different clocks for cities all over the world. For workouts, use the built-in stopwatch to log your best times.

Now, more music, movies, photos and games on your iPod Nano.

The first iPod was released only 5,5 years ago but the difference between that one and the one released earlier in 2006 is really quite astounding as you will now see.

1st Generation iPod

The 1st Generation iPod was launched at the end of October 2001 with dimensions to rival the established competition. It stood 4inches high and less than 3inches wide with a weight of around 6ounces. This initial iPod had a 5GB memory which could hold up to 1000 songs. It also had a high resolution screen and a revolutionary type of control system – the scroll or click wheel. However at $400 it was considered a major purchase and at this point the software needed to use the iPod was only available on the Mac.

2nd Generation iPod

The 2nd Generation iPod had the advantage of being compatible with PCs through a FireWire cable. There was also now software for use with Windows which opened the iPod up to a lot more users. The actual iPod itself changed very little. The scroll wheel became a solid fixture as apposed to a spinning wheel and there was an extra port for the attachment of a FireWire cable.

3rd Generation iPod

The spring of 2003 saw iPod sales really take off as the 3rd Generation was launched. One of the biggest changes to this new model was the ability to link it to a PC with a USB cable; the USB port was a lot more common on PCs than the FireWire port and so many more people could successfully use an iPod with their home computer. In addition the 3rd generation iPod had a bigger memory (20GB) and solid function buttons below the screen.

At the same time Apple launched the iTunes Music Store around the world which provided a legal source for 1000s of songs. iPod sales went through the roof and the brand became a household name.

4th Generation iPod

However Apple continued to release newer and more advanced models and at the end of 2003 the first of the 4th Generation iPods was launched. The iPod mini took the iPod in a whole new direction – small is beautiful. It was only half the size of the original iPod and because of its compact size the face changed quite dramatically in that the function buttons were rendered obsolete and everything was controlled by the scroll wheel. It also had to have a smaller screen.

The next step was to make the screen colour and this emerged with the iPod photo. This model had a larger hard drive and a longer battery life in addition to the ability to display colour photos and album covers.

By now Apple had pretty much conquered the digital audio device market but their next release proved to be a step towards taking over the flash drive market as well. This happened in January 2005 and was named the iPod shuffle. The shuffle was the smallest model yet and didn’t include an LCD screen on the face. However it’s 512MB memory was at least twice the size of its nearest competitor and the fact that it actually shuffled the songs so that the user never knew what was coming next and its very low price of $99 meant that the little iPod sold just as well as every other model before it.

The last of the 4th Generation iPods entered the market in July 2005 and was the tiniest to date. The iPod nano made use of a high capacity flash memory chip which enabled it to have the considerable memory of 4GB but still be…well, nano! The nano had new features as well such as calendars, address books, world times and games.

5th Generation iPod

The newest iPod is the 5th Generation iPod video. This has the capability of playing music videos, TV programmes and films downloaded from the iTunes Music Store. It has all of the features of the nano but as its full colour screen is bigger the overall dimensions are also slightly bigger (not too much though).

As you can see Apple has kept the changes coming and people have carried on buying and there doesn’t seem to be any evidence to say their latest release is their last.
